Desserts

I wonder if people come to Australia take one look at our Pavlova's collapse in laughter at such an awful dessert and then take photo's to show their friends of the awful desserts we have here.

In that vain.... these are all desserts, I have been told don't knock them till you try them but I just couldn't do it. Just couldn't.

Red beans are not my favourite to begin with making them into a dessert, my worst nightmare. I think I will stick to Pavlova.

In Which more Doughnuts were consumed

I decided yesterday to go back and have another doughnut. It takes ten minutes to get to the doughnut place but well worth it. On arriving I decided it was silly to just get one doughnut when I could get two, then decided that in fact I could get two for today and two for tomorrow. So I ordered 4 and was then informed that it was cheaper to buy 6 than 4!! I had no choice I had to buy 6 (with the intention of bringing a couple home to share). Except I ate them all. The lot. All six.

Dinner last night was beautiful, truly beautiful both in presentation and taste.

Back home now, I'm not going to mention the Arctic cold but OMG it is FREEZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Local Coffee

I am currently sitting outside Starbucks soaking up every last second of heat, and there is heat. If it wasn't for the free internet I wouldn't come near the place, a coffee here costs $6! Considering breakfast of two eggs toast and coffee for two people comes to $4 Starbucks coffee is outrageous.

There is something about paying 70c for a local coffee that comes in a colostomy bag that is quite satisfying.

If I was really adventurous lunch could have been very interesting but I just couldn't go there. Pigs Organ Soup just isn't my cup of tea!

I bought this tee shirt for Stef, thought it quite apt.

Lunch

Popped across to an island yesterday for lunch. Stunning privately owned cruiser with champagne on boarding and fresh strawberries may be a slight exaggeration.

I was most impressed with the new 'upholstery'

The island continued in the same theme, it's been there for a while.

We ordered fresh prawns. There was no worry that these were frozen as we watched the chef go across to the tub, scoop some out and cook them.

They get no better than this. Back to basics. Best prawns I have EVER had. Certainly the freshest I have ever had!

On another note (that isn't about food) we had a small incident in the early hours of yesterday morning. A family arrived very late with their family of very wound up small children that proceeded to run up and down the corridor screaming and screaming. I opened the door to yell (which would have been a very scary sight ,which Stephanie and a few of her friends will agree with, me in the middle of the night in my nightie and sleeping mask) but they disappeared quickly screaming with laughter. Revenge was sought at 7am the next day when somebody (NOT ME) rang their doorbell and then disappeared. SO very immature but so very satisfying.

And then..............

there are these.

Doughnuts from heaven,

they look like it AND they taste like it.

OMG they are to die for, I can't stop eating them, they actually melt in your mouth. I will never be able to eat a Krispy Kreme again.

As a little aside, same shop but these doughnuts concerned me a tad, not
really into savory doughnuts especially with chopped chicken sausage on top.

Durian

Look at this picture

The heavenly king of fruits made into one of the most delicious looking desserts - heaven sent. Do you not just want one very LARGE slice, extra cream on the side, good coffee and you are in H.E.A.V.E.N.

DO NOT BE FOOLED!!!

This fruit is the work of the devil, it has come straight from hell, there is nothing heavenly about it. Nothing at all, it tastes like VOMIT!!!!!!!

When you are on a remote beach in the middle of no where and a little man with his small van on a bicycle approaches you with home made ice cream and it looks like home made strawberry ice cream (your favourite) DO NOT BE FOOLED it is Durian ice cream, one lick and there will be no difference between the taste in it going down and then coming back up again.

Maybe this is how others feel when they taste vegemite.

Rainy Sydney

Our adventure plans thwarted by the rain we were forced to seek shelter in a coffee shop. Thankfully good smoothies and chips were readily available thus making the afternoon a success.

Sign of a good coffee...

Harley

He really is a lovely boy but I suggest if you come over you don't let him kiss you on the lips!

There's a Mouse Outside the House

There is a mouse OUTSIDE the house.

Much to the disgust of both Harley and Rani. Harley because he was not allowed to go outside and eat it and Rani because it meant stepping over the mouse to get inside the house.

So this was the situation for some time.

Rani too scared to come in.

And Harley desperate to get out.

In the end Harley was locked in a room and Rani did one massive leap from the BBQ and was able to make it inside with having any contact with a surface that may have been mouse contaminated.

Bush Walking

Went for a nearly four hour bushwalk thorough the Royal National Park, my initial comment that this looked like a very 'snakey' area was met with laughter, I would have thought that certain people had learnt a lesson after the 'kangaroo and wonbat incident' but clearly not!

The views were spectacular and the walk not too arduous.

We had our lunch here, sandwiches never taste as good as out in the fresh air when you feel like the last people on earth.

On the walk back I fell over myself when I saw this on the path ahead of me. I remained calm (debatable, but at least I didn't scream). A snake. Albeit a very (very) small snake but a snake nonetheless. I was told it was NOT a snake it was a worm. Oh FFS!!!!!

A close up.

Worms don't rear up.

Took a very large cup of tea and pice of banana cake to calm me down.

Down South

Had the most beautiful weekend away down South.

The drive in itself was spectacular, though driving to the B and B late at night took an hour instead of 20 minutes as there were wombats and kangaroos, (I need to add at this point the person in the passenger seat was being quite rude about my speed, or lack there of, and did not believe there would be any wild life around, seconds later we had to avoid a mad kangaroo, I just LOVE being right). The second night I spent some time dodging wombats both dead and alive and a very large white bird that tried to take on the car, really very stressful.

We spent the weekend walking along tracks, sitting by open fires and driving for hours. Oh and battling the noise my car was making, it had been making this sounds for a week or 10 and I thought it would eventually go away, so when in the middle of nowhere a shrill alarm sounded and the oil light came on I had a slight moment of guilt and panic (not helped by the person in the passenger seat making a HUGE deal out of the fact I had not had this noise checked earlier). Turns out I had run out of oil, completely, totally and utterly. Thankfully it was easily solved, well maybe not easily but it was solved and the noise disappeared.

Dinner on Saturday night was spent here. Nothing like an open fire on a cold night and it was COLD!!!

Ah yes and I helped the lovely farmer/host herd his cattle up. The cowboy dude thought I was a complete moron but the feeling was mutual so I guess that makes it ok.

This is where we stayed. The hosts were two of the loveliest people I have come across and made us feel so very welcome. The tea was real, the shower to die for, electric blankets, great breakfast, just perfect, it's not often you have cows, llama's and kangaroos in your backyard.

This is the waterfall from the second day, long walk but worth it for the view.

The Easter Show

Whilst I would have liked to have missed the crowds and leave home at 8am the fact that Stef was coming with us meant a 10:30am start. The alcoholic fumes as she arose led me to know she had been out, what I wasn't aware of till after it was over, was the fact that Charlotte was up for the day when Stef came home.

Nonetheless Stef rallied at 10 but was slightly weary on the bus

The girls were beside themselves with the all the action at the cattle yards

The owner of this cat wasn't particularly impressed when I asked her what happened to the cats nose. We couldn't stop laughing at this breed of cat, it looks like it has gone head first into a plate of glass!!

We are tired and exhausted and I am never going again. Well not with somebody under the age of 20.
